Pau Gasol's Comments Mis-Quoted But The Damage Is Done

Kevin Garnett and Boston may be annoyed by Pau Gasol's comments on Garnett's diminishing game.  Gasol discredited the quotes, and said they were taken out of proportion.

Gasol's controversial quote, "He's more of a jump shooter now, you could say, comes off the lane. Before, he had a really, really quick first step and was getting to the lane and was more aggressive then. Time passes and we all suffer it one way or another, but he is still a terrific player, a terrific competitor and he's going to bring everything he's got. You can count on that."

The media was making something out of nothing. Surprise, surprise. Gasol called Garnett a terrific competitor and a terrific player. The media took that to mean he was calling Garnett washed up. Gasol was in a classy way. It's nothing that should be taken negatively, but it's probably true at this point in his career.

The damage could be done. Garnett knows of the speculation on his game, and probably will elevate his play to diffuse any thoughts he's losing the skills that made him the star he is.

Garnett refused to respond, saying, "I have no comments for his comments."

Maybe he'll save his response for the rest of the NBA Finals. Watch out, Pau Gasol.
