Jozy Altidore's Status For World Cup Opener Remains In Doubt

The U.S. sustained a devastating blow when the star striker sprained his ankle in a drill on Wednesday.  Altidore was held out of on-field activities again today, and his status for the opener remains in doubt.  The U.S. will face England in its opener on June 12th.

Status: Altidore is walking without a limp, and progressing well according to the L.A. Times - http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-0605-us-australia-20100605,0,1163442.story

There's still time to recover, but the ankle injury could resurface in-game.  Let's hope not..

Altidore played for Hull City on a loan in 2009-10 and is one of the premier scorers on the national squad.  Other players will gain an opportunity to play next to Dempsey on a world stage if Altidore remains out.

Note:  England lost its captain, Rio Ferdinand, for the entire World Cup on Friday.  Ferdinand injured a knee in England's training session.  Both teams will be a little beat up going into the opener, but they'll be ready to go.  After all, the World Cup only comes around once every four years.

The 2010 World Cup begins on June 11th.  Mark it down!  Maybe the U.S. will surprise and win it?  Doubt it, but U.S. fans can only hope.
